TCBY is pretty decent from a vegan perspective. Along with two dairy-free froyo flavors, they also have a wider selection of fruity sorbets. Not to mention—you can get the sorbet mixed with Sprite in a “Sorbet Fizz”! Lots of yummy choices.
Vegan options at TCBY:
- Chocolate Almond Soft Serve
- Dairy Free Coconut Soft Serve
- Kiwi Strawberry Sorbet
- Mango Sorbet
- Orange Sorbet
- Pink Lemonade Sorbet
- Ruby Red Grapefruit Sorbet
- Watermelon Sorbet
- Psychedelic Sorbet (Hand Scooped)
- Sorbet Fizz
Below, I’ll share a list of vegan toppings, full ingredients for the vegan flavors, and links to vegan menus for other frozen yogurt chains, too!
The following vegan menu was compiled with the help of the menus and ingredient lists on the TCBY website. Keep in mind that not all flavors are available every day. You’ll likely only see a few of the options below.
Restaurant menus change and often vary by location. I recommend double checking any important information with staff at your location!
1. Dairy-Free Soft Serve
TCBY has two soft-serve flavors specifically made to be vegan, one from almond and one from coconut:
- Chocolate Almond
- Dairy Free Coconut
2. Soft Serve Sorbet
Along with the almond and coconut options above, TCBY also has some classic fruity sorbets that are 100% dairy-free and vegan-friendly:
- Kiwi Strawberry Sorbet
- Mango Sorbet
- Orange Sorbet
- Pink Lemonade Sorbet
- Ruby Red Grapefruit Sorbet
- Watermelon Sorbet
3. Hand Scooped Sorbet
There’s only 1 hand-scooped vegan option at TCBY currently. That said, it’s a really cool-looking yellow and red sorbet:
- Psychedelic Sorbet
4. Vegan Toppings
The vegan toppings offered at your local TCBY may vary. But looking at what is commonly offered on their website, this was my conservative estimate of commonly available vegan options:
- Almonds
- Banana
- Blackberries
- Blueberries
- Coconut Flakes
- Diced Peaches
- Mangos
- Mixed Nuts
- Non-Dairy Whipped Topping
- OREO
- Peanut Butter Topping
- Pineapple
- Raspberries
- Strawberries
- Walnuts in Syrup
Other toppings may also be vegan. The full ingredients for the sprinkles, cookie dough, and other more complex toppings are not publicly available. So I would just ask about any unknown ingredients at your location.
5. Sorbet Fizz
A Sorbet Fizz is a mix between a sorbet and a drink. It mixes the “sorbet flavor of the day” with Sprite. It’s always dairy-free and vegan-friendly!
TCBY Dairy-Free Ingredients
You might be curious what the dairy-free flavors at TCBY are made of. Luckily, the ingredients are posted publicly, so we can take a close look.
First, let’s look at the dairy-free Chocolate Almond flavor:
TCBY Dairy-Free Chocolate Almond Ingredients: “Water, Sugar, Almonds, Cocoa (Processed with Alkali), Stabilizer and Emulsifier (Locust Bean Gum, Guar Gum, Carrageenan), Natural Vanilla, Natural Flavor, Culture.”
Sometimes “Culture” can be made with dairy to feed the bacteria, as I explained in my post, “Is Lactobacillus Vegan?” But since we know this is a dairy-free product, I wouldn’t worry about this too much.
Now let’s look at the Dairy Free Coconut flavor:
TCBY Dairy Free Coconut Ingredients: “Filtered Water, Tapioca Maltodextrin, Sugar, Toasted Coconut Flavor (Sugar, Water, Coconut, Caramel, Natural Flavor), Corn Syrup, Polydextrose, Coconut Cream (Coconut Extract, Water, Xanthan Gum, Carrageenan, Guar Gum), Dextrose Monohydrate, Stabilizer (Locust Bean Gum, Guar Gum, Carrageenan, Sucrose), Sunflower Lecithin, Salt, Calcium Carbonate, Contains the following live active cultures: S. thermophilis, B. lactis, L. acidophilus, L. lactis, L. casei, L. rhamnosus, L. bulgaricus.”
And lastly, let’s take a look at the ingredients for a sorbet flavor:
TCBY Orange Sorbet Ingredients: “Water, Sugar, Corn Syrup, Natural Flavor (Water, Salt, Citric Acid, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Benzoate, Span 60, PolySorbate 60), Stabilizer & Emulsifier (Locust Bean Gum, Guar Gum, Dextrose), FD&C Yellow #6.”
